Aiya began practicing yoga 21 years ago, teaching yoga 8 years ago, and has completed over 800 hours of training in Anusara Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and, most recently, Forrest Yoga. She believes focused intention, attention, and breath create the time and space for healing and exploring one’s movement potential. Functionally, this means her yoga classes combine strong breath, long holds, focused attention, healthy alignment, a good sense of humor, and a kind attitude toward the body.
Aiya has trained directly with Ana Forrest and two of her senior Guardians - Jambo Truong and Brian Campbell. She’s also studied with John Friend, Todd Norian, Desiree Rumbaugh, Carson Efird, Paul and Sommer Sobin, and Lila Pierce Brown. She’s completed a Forrest Yoga Foundation Teacher Training, a Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training with Carson Efird, an Anusara Immersion with Paul and Sommer Sobin, a Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers Course with Ellen Heed, a 10-day Yoga Bodyworkers Training, and continues her education in the Forrest Yoga approach. She also holds an M.S. in Technical Communication. When she’s not doing yoga or training at Kinetic Potential, you can find her managing an IT team, hiking in the woods, and dancing.
Tania has studied Kinetic Potential style movement since 2016 as one of the first and most enthusiastic students of the gym. With three years of CrossFit training, and three CrossFit Open competitions, she cultivated a passion for barbell technique, as well as the strict push-up and pull-up. Tania spent 12 years practicing Ashtanga yoga, and has enjoyed running, sometimes competitively, throughout her life. She is a Certified StrongFirst Bodyweight Instructor, has trained hand balancing with Kirsty Grosart, Vinyasa yoga with Shiva Rae and Ashtanga yoga with Matthew Sweeny. A fun, supportive and inclusive gym community, she believes, is a strong motivation for consistent practice. Tania loves a heavy deadlift and is working toward a free-standing handstand. When not lifting iron, she can often be found lifting and planting trees with Keep Durham Beautiful.
Movement has been a major part of Colleen’s personal interests for as long as she remembers. Dancing, yoga, running, and several attempts at learning more from different personal trainers. (And so many big box gyms…)
Colleen is the owner and acupuncturist of The Balance Point Acupuncture in Chapel Hill. During her free time, you can find her buried in books, writing, dancing, traveling, and making herself laugh.
